The Mission of Western North Carolinians for Death Penalty Repeal

  • To support Edward Chapman and further his message and story

Edward Glen Chapman was exonerated of two first degree homicides in 2008 after spending 14 years on the North Carolina death row.  He has since written and published a book, Life After Death Row, with Alex Cury of the Western North Carolina ACLU.  WNCDPR is working with Edward to promote his book and story while working for the repeal of North Carolina’s death penalty.

  • To support WNC family members of murder victims and death row inmates

WNCDPR supports Western North Carolina family members of victims and death row inmates, working with organizations such as Murder Victims Families’ for Reconciliation.

  • Outreach to the WNC community, media and elected officials

A primary objective of WNCDPR is raising the Western North Carolina community’s awareness of the death penalty and the injustices within.  Through forums, drives and events we will spread factual, up-to-date information on the death penalty in North Carolina to all, including local elected officials and all media.
