WCHL: DA: Report on SBI Puts Death Penalty in Question

“In light of the recent outside review of North Carolina’s SBI blood lab, Orange Chatham District Attorney Jim Woodall says the state should place a moratorium on executions.

The report shows evidence presented in the courtroom might have been inaccurate in more than 200 cases.

Woodall believes the report has put into question how well the state can implement the death penalty.

He says the report should be enough reason for the legislature to hold a vote on whether or not to keep capital punishment in North Carolina.

New SBI Director Greg McLeod fired the agency’s lab director Friday.”
